About the Artist

Bihan Liao | Technical Environment Artist

Real-Time Storyteller | XR-Ready Worldbuilder | From Concept to Optimized Realization

Bihan creates immersive worlds through cross-platform pipelines—Unity for Apple Vision Pro and Unreal Engine for mobile and PC. At BMW’s Vision Pro project, she designed gesture-responsive particle systems and depth-based see-through shaders for dynamic mixed-reality car showcases, while ensuring particle compatibility and assets optimization for XR.

In Frostbound (now showcased at the SCAD Pavilion), as the lead concept and environment artist, Bihan enhanced environmental storytelling by designing time-collapse sequences—transforming sky castles into ruins through destructible asset spawning and procedural lighting, introducing three distinct era variations within the scene, and enabling interactive synergy between tactical cards and environments.

For her project, "BALOR – I daub these caverns, for your next millennium", Bihan embarked on multi-stage underwater environment creation, utilizing level instancing to edit different levels simultaneously. From character sculpting to foliage and designer materials, from Lighting Function Material Functions to Niagara VFX, every asset was crafted entirely from scratch.

Rooted in SVA ’s illustration training and refined through collaborations like Woodkid’s Reactor MV, Bihan transforms environmental art into reactive storytelling—whether adapting XR-ready environments or tailoring Unreal Engine simulations for immersive and strategic gameplay.
